The Pregame: A Rematch in Hollywood

michael banner 2The Washington Capitals continue their season-long six-game road trip with the second half of the stretch Monday night at Staples Center where they’ll take on the Los Angles Kings. These teams actually met one week ago at Capital One Arena with the Caps coming on top 6-4. Alex Ovechkin Scores 40th Goal but Caps Fall to Ducks in Anaheim

The Washington Capitals were looking to build off a big win Thursday night in San Jose but they fell to the Anaheim Ducks 5-2 at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Sunday night. Alex Ovechkin achieved another milestone, John Carlson added a goal too but in the end, the Caps couldn’t stay out of the box and the Ducks made them pay with three unanswered goals. T.J. Oshie Records 500th Career Point, Caps Tame Sharks 5-1

T.J. Oshie scored twice, earning a milestone 500th career point, to lead the Washington Capitals to a 5-1 win over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night in the second game of their season-long six-game road trip. The Caps allowed a goal to begin the game but ripped off five unanswered to exact revenge on a Sharks team that stunned the Capitals’ in D.C. on January 22nd with a goal in the last second to tie it and then go on to win in overtime.  Continue reading “T.J. Caps End Homestand on High Note Before Falling in Columbus

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals wrapped up their season-long six game homestand and kicked off a long road trip this week. On Saturday, the Caps overcame a 3-1 and 4-2 deficit against the Florida Panthers. They rallied to force the tie but ultimately fell short in overtime 5-4. The Capitals rebounded in the final game of the homestand on Monday night with a 6-4 win over the Los Angeles Kings before kicking off a six-game road trip in Columbus where they were blanked by the Blue Jackets 3-0.

Capitals Defeat Canucks 3-2 with Alex Ovechkin Achieving Another Milestone

The Washington Capitals defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena. Coming off the break, the Caps have won two of their last three games to pull closer in the Metropolitan Division race. Capitals Defensemen Shine but Team Falters 8-5 to the Blackhawks

The Washington Capitals drooped their fifth game in a row in a 8-5 offensive shootout loss the Chicago Blackhawks in a Sunday afternoon matinee at United Center in Chicago. All five Capitals goals came from defensemen with All-Star John Carlson pacing the way with two while Brooks Orpik, Dmitry Orlov, and Matt Niskanen each added a goal of their own. In the end though, the Caps goaltending couldn’t overcome a Blackhawks attack highlighted by a four-goal afternoon from Jonathan Toews. The Cap shave now dropped eight of their last 11 games and are still looking for answeres. They haven’t dropped five games in a row since the start of the 2014-15 season.

Caps Defeat Bruins 4-2 to Win 3rd in a Row

The Washington Capitals continued to roll with a 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins in a brief stop up in Boston before a big two home games come up on the horizon vs. the Blue Jackets and the Blues. Jakub Vrana continued his fire with a fast breakaway goal. Alex Ovechkin scored twice and Nicklas Backstrom added a goal of his own. Jakub Vrana’s Two Goals Lead Caps to 5-3 Win Over Flyers

CAPITAL ONE ARENA – The Washington Capitals were leading the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 just over the midway mark in the second period. The Flyers were looking for some kind of momentum to tie the game. As they had the puck in the Caps zone, Jakub Vrana stayed on his man and forced a turnover off an errant attempted pass from Sean Couturier and went off to the races. Vrana flew up the ice with only goaltender Mike McKenna to beat. Nicklas Backstrom Misses Caps Morning Skate Due to Illness, Will Be Game-Time Decision vs. Flyers

MEDSTAR CAPITALS ICEPLEX – The Washington Capitals took took the ice on Tuesday morning to prepare for their contest that night against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Caps are coming off an impressive 3-2 comeback win over the Detroit Red Wings thanks to Michal Kempny‘s late third period goal that ended their brief three-game western road trip. The Flyers meanwhile were shutout at home by the St. Louis Blues 3-0 last night. When the Caps took the ice in Arlington this morning, everyone was marked present except for one. Alex Ovechkin’s Hat Trick in Second Straight Game Leads Caps to Comeback Win over Hurricanes

The Washington Capitals and their were frustrated. It was a stinker start of the game and it saw the Caps trail 4-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes before they mounted a furious comeback in the third period to win the game 6-5 in a shootout. The win was the Caps fourth in a row and 11th win in their last 13 games. The comeback was led by Alex Ovechkin’s hat trick, the second straight game he accomplished the feat. The difference in the shootout was Jakub Vrana, who scored his first career shootout goal on his first-ever attempt.
