Michal Kempny Surgery: That Hurts

The Washington Capitals announced on Tuesday that defenseman Michal Kempny underwent surgery to repair his left hamstring. Kempny has been out of commission since he sustained an injury on March 20. He will now be out for up to six months- well into the next season. Not only is this a painful injury from which to recover; it is a painful blow for the Capitals right before the playoffs. Back to Hershey for Lewington

The Capitals announced that they are sending Tyler Lewington back to the AHL Hershey Bears. They called him up after the Michal Kempny injury and while the team was struggling through some illness issues.


Does this mean Kempny is on the way back? We have no clue but sure hope so. Mostly we think it means the bug has passed…so-to-speak.

Meanwhile the Bears are gearing up for a playoff run for the Calder Cup and Tyler will be a great help with that effort.

Capitals Not Taking Any Chances; Call Up Lewington

The Capitals announced Saturday afternoon that they called defenseman Tyler Lewington up from the Hershey Bears. The Caps play the Philadelphia Flyers at 1230 on Sunday and are down a D-man with and injured Michal Kempny out. Madison Bowey and Tyler Lewington Score First NHL Goals in Caps Win Over Sens

The Washington Capitals defeated the Ottawa Senators for the second consecutive Saturday 3-2 in Ottawa to win their fourth game in a row. This big road victory had a couple of milestones for two young defensemen Tyler Lewington and Madison Bowey. Capitals Recall Defenseman Tyler Lewington from Hershey

Just a few short days ago, Tyler Lewington made his NHL debut in the Capitals game against the Ottawa Senators. With Brooks Orpik, the most experienced defenseman on the Caps, missing the last two months with a knee injury the blue line has needed everyone to chip in and fill that void. Lewington was sent back to Hershey the other day but brought back Thursday morning as Orpik needs more time for recovery.
