Capitals Roster Cuts Begin

Following their second preseason game and a week of training camp, the Capitals have sent the following players back to their home teams:

Alex Alexeyev

Eric Florchuk

Kody Clark

Riley Sutter

Alex Kannok-Leipert

Kristian Marthinsen

The Caps have loaned Martin Fehervary to Sweden’s HV17 league. Additionally they released Logan Thompson from his tryout agreement.

No big surprises with the first round of cuts as all the players released to their junior level teams probably need a bit more time before they are ready for the NHL.

The Capitals released the following new roster for camp, which resumes Thursday.

Capitals Training Camp Pushing Players Skill Levels

Tuesday’s training camp was a lot of fun to watch today. The first two rounds we saw AHL, ECHL, college kids, and NHL players working in more unity. The second round was mostly those players who are likely to return home without a spot on the Caps roster. The third season was chock full of Caps players and likey candidates for those coveted spots.

They started early today with warmups at 0830. They were finally off the ice by 2:30. That’s a lot of standing and taking photos and video!!

Take a look at what Mel captured today:

Can we just say how much we love Holtby and Orlov??

The Russians are Back…The Russians are Back!!!

World Cup of Hockey 2016 didn’t go so well for Team Russia–although they made it further than Team USA.

Alex Ovechin,

Dmitry Orlov,

and Evgeny Kuznetsov

were back at Caps training camp today.

Meanwhile, Stan Galiev has been representing Russia while they were away…

As much fun as it was to watch them in World’s it is even better to have them home with us!!

Welcome back boyz!!

Two Losses?? Should we be Worried?

We are all wondering what the two losses in preseason means.

Should we be worried? The answer is no.

The easy enough answer of why not is that none of our stars are here. If we measure up the number of Hurricanes players and Canadiens players at the World Cup combined is six when we have nine players at the World Cup.

Right now the team has more rookies playing then normally. We lost a few games during preseason last year. We have only played two games and they lost one of the first two games with all the players and stars.

We will get our players back soon and then we will be better.
