The Pregame: A Rematch in Hollywood

michael banner 2The Washington Capitals continue their season-long six-game road trip with the second half of the stretch Monday night at Staples Center where they’ll take on the Los Angles Kings. These teams actually met one week ago at Capital One Arena with the Caps coming on top 6-4. The Pregame: Caps Are Back in Town

After John Carlson, Braden Holtby and Todd Reirden took part in the NHL All-Star weekend festivities in San Jose and the rest of the team enjoying extra time off with both the All-Star break and the NHL mandatory bye week, the Caps are back in action. The team practiced on Thursday afternoon at MedStar Capitals Iceplex and will hold a morning skate tomorrow morning (or today if you’re reading this now) to gear up for a Friday night tilt. The second half push begins tonight with the Calgary Flames coming to Capital One Arena. Braden Holtby and John Carlson Lead Metropolitan Division to All-Star Game Win

Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby and defenseman John Carlson were well represented at the NHL All-Star Game in San Jose last week. With coach Todd Reirden at the helm of the Metropolitan Division, the trio contributed to wins over the Atlantic and Central Divisions to win the All-Star Game and split the grand prize of one million dollars. Jakub Vrana’s Two Goals Lead Caps to 5-3 Win Over Flyers

CAPITAL ONE ARENA – The Washington Capitals were leading the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 just over the midway mark in the second period. The Flyers were looking for some kind of momentum to tie the game. As they had the puck in the Caps zone, Jakub Vrana stayed on his man and forced a turnover off an errant attempted pass from Sean Couturier and went off to the races. Vrana flew up the ice with only goaltender Mike McKenna to beat. Todd Reirden is Named Coach of the Metropolitan Division for NHL All-Star Game

Todd Reirden has done a good job guiding the Washington Capitals in their quest to back-to-back and that effort was rewarded by the NHL on Saturday morning. The league officially announced who the head coaches are for each division for the NHL All-Star Game in San Jose, California. Capitals Hold Off Hurricanes for a 3-1 Win

The Washington Capitals returned to action at Capital One Arena following the NHL holiday break and got a huge 3-1 win over their Metropolitan Division rival Carolina Hurricanes 3-1. It was their third win in a row that saw goals from Chandler Stephenson, T.J. Oshie and John Carlson. Christmas was fun and the Caps had great videos, but it feels good to see them play hockey again.
