Caps, Devils, and Camo (photos)

Twitter was full of comments about Thursday night’s Capitals and Devils game. Most frequently comment was along the lines of “zzzzzzzz.” But have no fear, our girls got some great photos before and during the game.

Shall we start with warm-ups? The boys were decked out in some snazzy camo sweaters in honor of our military.

Nate Schmidt was playing coy with the camera but we still captured that smiley face if his.

Tom Wilson the other hand never shys away from our lens.

And here is new guy Kevin Shattenkirk

Ok so we went through the first two periods with no goals. We blame that on the two goalies Braden Holtby and Cory Schneider

Alex Ovechkin continued his scoreless streak (five games no goal) but he did have three shots in goal. WM-107.jpg

The Devils gave it their best shot but came up empty in the end.

Rookie Jakub Vrana, visiting from the Hershey Bears, scored the only goal in the third period. wm-143

The match ended mercifully after 60 minutes with the Capitals 14th win at home (a new franchise record) and a seventh shutout for the Holtbeast!!

The Caps welcome  the Philadelphia Flyers to Verizon Center on Saturday. This is always a fun physical game. We’re pretty sure it will be more exciting!!

Washington Capitals Top Week 6-4 Over Ducks (A Few Photos)

Saturday night in Washington DC the Capitals downed the Anaheim Ducks in their last home game before the mandatory ‘bye week.’

The Ducks are in a pretty good position in the Pacific Division, sitting in third place just behind their rivals the LA Kings. Goalie John Gibson has been having an ok year with a .918 save percentage and he was solid against the Caps with 33/39 saves.

The Caps; however, were having no losing at home taking the game 6-4.

The Caps played without an injured Andre Burakovsky. Zach Sanford made the drive from Hershey to fill in for Burky, first with season ticket holders on Friday night and then scoring on Saturday–his first NHL goal and the go-ahead goal to win it for the Caps.

Other stars of the night for the Caps were the Daniel Winnik with a goal and an assist. TJ Oshie got the boyz started with his goal; Nick Backstrom, Tom Wilson, and Marcus Johansson would also record goals for the team. Ten players total had points on the board before the night was over.

Caps Start the 2016-17 NHL Season Looking for Inspiration in Pittsburgh

When asked about starting the 2016-17 season in Pittsburgh, the NHL coach of the year Barry Trotz didn’t sugar coat his words.

“Perfect,” he quipped. “I hope they have a long [Stanley Cup champions] ceremony (and) I hope they have us standing there. I hope they raise that banner right in front of us, so that we see it. Hopefully, next year we can do the same thing to them and raise a banner in front of them.”

The Washington Capitals start their 2016-17 season in Pittsburgh Thursday, October 13, the last place they played before their season was once again cut short in the playoffs. But what other games should Caps fans look forward to this season? Caps Today suggests the following will be of interest to fans:

Caps Season Ticket Holder: Selecting A New Seat

June 7th was select a seat night for Caps season ticket holders (STH); where you can see what seats are now available to exchange or purchase for the 2016-17 hockey season. There weren’t very many seats available, which is a good indication that fans still have faith and support this Capitals team.Verizon was set up just like a hockey game, except there was no glass or ice… I know, I was sad to see that too…

Since I’m a rookie-it’s my first year as a season ticket holder-I was in the last group to go into the Verizon Center. STHs are allowed to go into the seating bowl where pieces of paper are taped to those seats up for grabs. Once you find the seat you like, you can stand by the seat and a Caps’ game-night employee will answer questions you have–like will our view be blocked if we take pictures from here. Once you make the decision to take the new seat, they send you off to to guest services to complete the final business of transferring seats. The released seats are then flagged as available for the next group coming in.

So my dilemma was to move from sitting behind my favorite player, Holtby defending twice, to moving all the way over to the opposing side and attack twice. I was still  looking a Row C, but a little to the side instead of directly behind the goalie.  After thinking way too much, I chose to move.DSC_0378

Ok here’s my reasons for switching: I will get to see more Caps goals, more cellys, Holts will be there for the 2nd period, there’s more seat room for me and my stuff and the ultimate deciding factor: no Monumental network sign reflecting off the glass and in the pictures!! You can see that sign in many of my pictures and I don’t get to share them with you.

The event itself was a fun experience. We were greeted by our ticket reps and there was free soda, popcorn and t-shirts!  Although the last three groups missed out on the t-shirt thing. There are few rules about the number of seats that you can buy (8) which the reps go over before letting you loose to roam the seats. And you can’t split up pairs of seats to buy one–which is all I needed. I noticed that other NHL teams do the same select a seat events; however, they make it an open house with more activities like merchandise sales and player autograph sessions!  I’m hoping the Caps will do something like that next year!

I was sad to see no hockey being played at Verizon in early June,  but going there and knowing next season is not that far away helps me make it through. And remembering what an amazing season the Caps had helps me focus on what’s to come in the 2016-17 season!

Look for pictures from the blog to be from better angles and closer up, because your FICP team has moved closer to the action!  I’m not the only one who moved!   Maggie and Brittney moved to their seats from the 200s to the 100s and will be covering the other end of the ice!  Moving on up..wait.. That’s moving on down!

Get excited Caps fans!! This season will be a good one all around and we will be there covering it for you from start to finish!!!
