Caps End Homestand on High Note Before Falling in Columbus

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals wrapped up their season-long six game homestand and kicked off a long road trip this week. On Saturday, the Caps overcame a 3-1 and 4-2 deficit against the Florida Panthers. They rallied to force the tie but ultimately fell short in overtime 5-4. The Capitals rebounded in the final game of the homestand on Monday night with a 6-4 win over the Los Angeles Kings before kicking off a six-game road trip in Columbus where they were blanked by the Blue Jackets 3-0.

Capitals Defeat Canucks 3-2 with Alex Ovechkin Achieving Another Milestone

The Washington Capitals defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena. Coming off the break, the Caps have won two of their last three games to pull closer in the Metropolitan Division race. Capitals Winning Streak vs. Bruins Gets Halted at 14 Sunday

The Washington Capitals had simply owned the Boston Bruins. They had not lost to them since March 29, 2014. Since then, which was stretched to four seasons and nearly five, the Caps had won 14 straight against the Bruins. That is the longest active streak in the NHL. The Caps were coming off a thrilling win over the Calgary Flames Friday night with Evgeny Kuznetsov coming through win the game-winner with under a minute left that snapped a seven game winless streak. Washington was hoping to make it two in a row on Super Bowl Sunday in the second game of a season-long six-game home stand. The Pregame: Caps Are Back in Town

After John Carlson, Braden Holtby and Todd Reirden took part in the NHL All-Star weekend festivities in San Jose and the rest of the team enjoying extra time off with both the All-Star break and the NHL mandatory bye week, the Caps are back in action. The team practiced on Thursday afternoon at MedStar Capitals Iceplex and will hold a morning skate tomorrow morning (or today if you’re reading this now) to gear up for a Friday night tilt. The second half push begins tonight with the Calgary Flames coming to Capital One Arena. Braden Holtby and John Carlson Lead Metropolitan Division to All-Star Game Win

Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby and defenseman John Carlson were well represented at the NHL All-Star Game in San Jose last week. With coach Todd Reirden at the helm of the Metropolitan Division, the trio contributed to wins over the Atlantic and Central Divisions to win the All-Star Game and split the grand prize of one million dollars. John Carlson Wins Hardest Shot Competition

The Washington Capitals, at least in the case of defenseman John Carlson, finally won something on Friday night. Although it doesn’t officially end their current seven game winless stretch, Carlson stole the spotlight in the Hardest Shot challenge at the NHL All-Star Skills Competition at SAP Center in San Jose. Capitals Defensemen Shine but Team Falters 8-5 to the Blackhawks

The Washington Capitals drooped their fifth game in a row in a 8-5 offensive shootout loss the Chicago Blackhawks in a Sunday afternoon matinee at United Center in Chicago. All five Capitals goals came from defensemen with All-Star John Carlson pacing the way with two while Brooks Orpik, Dmitry Orlov, and Matt Niskanen each added a goal of their own. In the end though, the Caps goaltending couldn’t overcome a Blackhawks attack highlighted by a four-goal afternoon from Jonathan Toews. The Cap shave now dropped eight of their last 11 games and are still looking for answeres. They haven’t dropped five games in a row since the start of the 2014-15 season.

Caps Defeat Bruins 4-2 to Win 3rd in a Row

The Washington Capitals continued to roll with a 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins in a brief stop up in Boston before a big two home games come up on the horizon vs. the Blue Jackets and the Blues. Jakub Vrana continued his fire with a fast breakaway goal. Alex Ovechkin scored twice and Nicklas Backstrom added a goal of his own. Todd Reirden is Named Coach of the Metropolitan Division for NHL All-Star Game

Todd Reirden has done a good job guiding the Washington Capitals in their quest to back-to-back and that effort was rewarded by the NHL on Saturday morning. The league officially announced who the head coaches are for each division for the NHL All-Star Game in San Jose, California.
