Capitals Development Camp Review 2019

Development Camp is a great time to get an early look at who might be on the Capitals roster in the years ahead. We have been watching the process unfold for a few years now and it is exciting to see a young draft finally make the jump to the Hershey Bears or the Washington Capitals. We remember seeing a grinning Tom Wilson for the first time and thinking there was something different about that guy. Washington Capitals Hockey Is Back!!! Dev Camp Day 1

Ok, so not fully back, but close enough for those of us desperate for some NHL hockey. 

Day 1 of development camp brought out a small gathering of the faithful. It’s always harder when camp hits during the workweek but die-hard fans always make the time. 


Here are some quick shots from the ice today. Fowards and defense lines were out first followed by the goalies later in the day and everyone to on the ice to close out the afternoon. 

Caps Development Camp: 2016 Summertime Hockey!

Get excited Caps fans, development camp starts this week for our Caps; kicking off  at Kettler.

This week-long camp tests players physically to see what they need to work on before training camp in September.  It’s also a chance for coaches to see draft picks chosen just this past weekend.

Here is the Capitals Development Camp Schedule, as released by the Capitals PR Department:

Tuesday: 

9:15 am Defense and Forwards on ice Defense (public rink) & forwards (Capitals rink)

3:40pm Goalies on ice (Capitals rink)

4pm All players on ice (Capitals rink)

Tuesday night also is movie night for Caps season ticket holders –  Club Red 365 members, Verizon center will show Star Wars The Force Awakens at 7pm on the big screen.  The event will include photo stations, complimentary popcorn, themed movie snacks and soft drinks. And…there are special themed alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase to those over 21 years of age. (Yes we will take pictures!)

Wednesday

11am on-ice testing (public rink)

11am Goalies on ice (Capitals rink)

12pm All skaters on ice (Capitals rink)

Wednesday is Fan Fest at Kettler.  It is open to the public from 3-10pm.  Here is what the Caps have said to expect:

  1. From 3-7pm   outdoor inflatable activities on 8th floor garage                                                 ( cornhole, street hockey, moon bounce, photo stations & Slapshot shooting cage)
  2. From 4-10pm   Capitals used equipment sale.  On the Mezzanine level  (public session is from 9-10pm). Note: season ticket holders  get first pick
  3. From 4-7pm   Entertainment
    1. Stage (Music 4-7pm),
    2. Caps alumni answer questions from 5:05-5:25pm,  and
    3. Caps 1st round draft pick Lucas Johansen answers questions from 6:20-6:40pm
  4. From 515-615pm   Caps Fan Fest Kids Clinic on the ice
  5. From 6-7pm   Caps development camp player appearances on the 8th level garage
  6. 7:20pm A welcome from Coach Barry Trotz  on the ice
  7. From 730-9pm   Caps alumni exhibition match on the ice

Thursday

9:15am Defense & Goalies on ice (Capitals rink)    Forwards on ice (public rink)

0am All skaters on ice ( Capitals rink)

Friday

9:35am Goalies on ice (Capitals rink)

10:15am Forwards on ice ( public rink) defense on ice (Capitals rink)

11:15am All skaters on ice (Capitals rink)

Saturday

10am Intrasquad scrimmage (streamed live on MonumentalSportsNetwork.com)

Remember all on-ice sessions are free and open to the public, so come on out to see some summer hockey. If you can’t make it your FICP team will be at Kettler throughout the week!
