When the game between the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders went to a pause for a commercial break, all eyes inside Capital One Arena were transfixed on the video board above center ice. CAPITAL ONE ARENA – The Washington Capitals were leading the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 just over the midway mark in the second period. The Flyers were looking for some kind of momentum to tie the game. As they had the puck in the Caps zone, Jakub Vrana stayed on his man and forced a turnover off an errant attempted pass from Sean Couturier and went off to the races. Vrana flew up the ice with only goaltender Mike McKenna to beat. Vrana went to his left and beat McKenna above the glove in the top corner. More Washington Capitals players have trickled into the DMV to gear up for the season and a chance to defend Lord Stanley’s Cup. No seriously, the keg stands are stopping and they’re getting back to business. A lot prospects took to the ice early on during Wednesday morning’s unofficial practice and were soon joined in by the vets including team captain Alex Ovechkin.
The Washington Capitals hit the ice again in front of a crowd of excited fans on Tuesday.
We had a lot of fun capturing the best players the league:
Tom Wilson was all coy skating by himself on the ice while he waited for his teammates to join him.
Evgeny Kuznetsov thought it was hilarious to shoot his puck at the camera while Wilson egged him on.
Coach Trotz was getting in some shots today as well as carting around a net that looked strangely like our little icon!
The Caps Fan Club hung signs to celebrate the Caps success in Round 1 and outside the Capitals prepared for excited fans to meet their favorite players.
We captured a bit of it on video for your viewing pleasure:
Caps practice again Wednesday at 1030. Morning skate on Thursday likely, and then it’s on to Round 2.
