Saturday October 5, hockey officially returns to Washington DC when the Capitals take on the Carolina Hurricanes. The home opener is the third game of the new season for the Caps. If it is anything like the preseason games against the Canes, it is guaranteed to be exciting and dare we say a little physical? Game Plan
The Capitals have a new roster this season. Gone are Andre Burakovsky, Brett Connolly, Brooks Orpik, and Phoenix Copley. Newly added, at least for opening night, include: Richard Pánik (14), Garnet Hathaway (21), Brenden Leipzig (28), Martin Fehervary (42), and Radko Gudas (33). There are some familiar faces making the cut following training camp: Chandler Stephenson (18) and Jonas Siegenthaler (34). Lots of new numbers to get used to seeing with new names!
The roster Saturday could look like this:
Holtby in the net and Samsanov backing him up
Evgeny Kuznetsov is serving his third game suspension and Michal Kempney is not quite ready to return to the ice as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
The Capitals will Rock the Red Carpet on F Street in front of Capital One Arena from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. It’s a great way to see the boys all dressed up and get some autographs and photos. Come early though because it gets crowded real fast.
