Capitals Team Store: Reading Between the Lines

Summer means sales and the Capitals Team Store always has great sales of merchandise  which start the week of  development camp. Wondering through the store, the merchandise has a way of telling the story of the season before and the season ahead.

When a player’s shirt goes on the sale rack it’s a pretty good indication that they won’t be returning. Such is the likely scenario for Devante Smith-Pelly.

There are the t-shirts for players who have been traded away, like Matt Niskanen.

And then there is the sad merchandise from a failed playoff run for the Cup. Now some of these shirts might have staying power- we always believe- but some may just make good craft shirts for the kids and at five bucks, that’s an okay thing.

Some new names pop up on the shelves, reflecting extended commitments by the Capitals. Sadly, one of those rows of shirts will be going on sale now as Andre Burakovsky moves to Colorado.

The store has gone through a bit of a remodel. Gone is the big checkout stand and there is a whole lot more floor space then before. Another sign of changing times as more and more fans go on-line to find their Caps merchandise.

We’ll keep an eye on the store, like we do every year, to let fans know when the new merchandise is in. The store offers a wide variety of brands which help fans whose budget is a little tight.

The MedStar Team Store is still the best place to buy an authentic jersey and get your favorite player’s name stitched on the back. It really is nice to have a store close by where fans can run in a grab a shirt before a game for that friend who has never been to a hockey game. Come to Capitals training camp in September or a Caps practice and make sure you stop in to see what they have to offer.
