Capitals Round One Game One Winning Photos

The Capitals played an exciting game Thursday, 11 March against the Carolina Hurricanes. There were some ups (like a 3-0 lead in the first period) and some downs (like no scoring in the second) and some areas of frustration (letting the Canes score twice in the third). In the end though, the Caps were valiant and won the first battle in what many hope will be another long summer of playing. FiCP photographer Mel Abernethy was up close to the glass capturing some of the before, during, and after moments.

It started with a first period lead after Nicklas Backstrom scored twice and his long-time pal Alexander Ovechkin scored one for that 3-0 lead.

John Carlson (3), Brooks Orpik, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Tom Wilson all had assists on those first goals. Lots of reason to celebrate.

Lars Eller was able to score in the third period following Canes Andrei Svechnikov’s two goals. The Tiger brought it home again with an empty net goal to win it 4-2 for the Capitals.

Its on to game two and hopefully better consistency. Fewer penalties, like a high stick my TJ Oshie would be an improvement. The defense will need to remain strong as well.

And Well Holby

GO CAPS!! Let do THIS!!

And then all these guys will show up and make it happen!
