It’s Been A Year and the Capitals Still Have It

The first game of the first round of the 2019 NHL Playoffs and the Washington Capitals proved they still have what it takes to win. They made it look easy at points and at points fans were on the edge of their seats. The Caps brought a sweet 4-2 defeat over the Carolina Hurricanes.

The first period was ALL CAPS without a doubt. Nicklas Backstrom scored once and then he scored again. Rocket Player Alexander Ovechkin made it 3-0 Caps favor by the end of the first period.

The second period was a lot of back and forth with a two power play opportunities for the Caps with no goals.

Capitals power play.

By the end of the 20 minutes, it was still a 3-0 Capitals lead.

It looked like the Caps would have it all tied up, until Andrei Svechnikov decided he would pull a Backstrom one-two and close the gap to a 3-2 Caps lead. And then there was an awful high stick by TJ Oshie against Sebastian Aho at 16.29. And with a couple minutes left the Canes pulled their goaltender for a huge advantage. A nice long shot by the Caps went just shy of the empty net. Fans were on their feet. And they missed a second shot on the empty goal. It got so loud you could barely here Wes Johnson announce the one minute warning….

…and then Tiger Lars Eller finally showed his mates how to get a puck in an empty net. Such incredible excitement 4-2 Capitals Win Round One!!
