The Hagelin and Jensen Add Grit to Capitals Lines

Before the NHL trade deadline expired the Capitals added two new seasoned players to the roster- one to the fourth line and one to defense. Carl Hagelin flew in from LA to lift up the bottom line while Nick Jensen made his way from Detroit to add some might to the penalty kill. Tuesday they played in front of Capitals fans for the first time.

Earlier in the day the two warmed up with teammates in Arlington at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex. They are still adjusting to a new team and the style of coach Todd Reirden.

Then it was on to a 7 pm home game against the Ottawa Senators. How’d they do?!

Hagelin played 12:37 minutes.four shots on goal. Fans were hoping for an assist or a goal. He was fast getting where he needed to be and trying to open things up for his linemates to score. We felt like when he was on the ice he was always in the thick of things. This might just be what the team needed to infuse the energy they need to get to the playoffs. For the first time in a while we can say we saw something in Travis Boyd, because Hagelin seemed to bring the best out of him

Jensen showed his speed as he spent 20:01 minutes on the ice. John Carlson played 20:01 too. He even got a shot on goal off. He too played his heart out and proved that he is a great addition to the defense. And he will help give Carly’s legs a bit of a rest. He seems to have good eyes on the puck and knows how to get between the net and the opposition. He was a good fit with veteran player Brooks Orpik.

All-in-all, from what we saw at home, we think these players are great additions. We can’t wait to see what happens after a couple more games and practices as they find their flow with the Capitals.
