With the Caps carrying a seven-game winning streak and Anaheim donning a three-game streak themselves, the two teams squared off in a Sunday matinee which turned out to be quite the high-scoring affair.
For the first 34 minutes of regulation the Capitals looked to be in full control putting up 5 goals coming from Nicklas Backstrom, Chandler Stephenson, Tom Wilson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Nic Dowd respectively.
They took a 5-3 lead into the third period but the final 26 minutes of the cost quickly swung in Anaheim’s favor. Costly boarding penalties committed by Dmitry Orlov would lead to the Ducks tying the game.
Then at 14:55 of the third and final frame the Ducks’ Pontus Aberg would convert on a touch pass feathered to him by Ryan Getzlaf into a empty net after Braden Holtby was thrown out of position.
