Evgeni Malkin Will Not Be Suspended for Hit on T.J. Oshie, Per Report

NHL Insider Greg Wysynski has reported that the NHL Department of Player Safety will not suspend Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin for his shoulder-to-head hit on T.J. Oshie. The injury sent Oshie to concussion protocol but he would remain in the game and score the eventual game-winning goal with 1:14 to go.

We’ll have more from this awesome win which was a great birthday present a little bit later. But seeing this news is a bit bizzare. It seems the league likes to make an example out of guys like Tom Wilson but when it comes to a player of the Pittsburgh Penguins, they don’t bat an eye.

Wyshynski said that the sense he has is that they felt that the in-game punishment of getting kicked out of the game was enough and that they felt that Malkin was bracing for impact more than delivering a head shot.

He however, did disagree with the assessment of the play.

You can look at the play here and decide for yourself.

After the game Oshie told reporters that he didn’t care about whatever discipline Malkin could potentially receive. He was just happy to help the team out and get the win.

“Not my concern anymore. We got the W,” Oshie said. “I don’t care what happens to him. He caught me there and that is what it is. I passed my concussion test, went out, and won the game.”
