After dropping a heartbreaker in Montreal where they allowed two late goals (not including the empty net), the Caps were hoping some home cooking and a normal hockey schedule would do the trick. They did get a point out of this one but they still fell in overtime 4-3 on a goal by Jason Dickinson. Something about the Stars having the Caps number, which defies logic. Since the 1996-97 season, the Stars are 23-2-6 against the Caps. Imagine how much torture that would be if that was the Cowboys record against the Redskins. At least the Skins won that game a few weeks ago! Okay back to hockey.

The Stars took advantage of two Capitals turnovers that led to goals. The first goal came off a bad cross-ice pass by Matt Niskanen that was intercepted by Jason Spezza to lead to a breakaway goal.

The second one was the aftermath of a turnover by Braden Holtby that Tyler Pitlick took advantage of.

The Caps got on the board to the delight of the fans 38 seconds into the second frame. Nicklas Backstrom notched his third goal of the year with a sharp-angle shot.

The Stars went back up 3-1 with a goal by Jamie Benn. At 12:31, Brett Connolly finished off a rebound for his second goal of the year to pull the Caps within one entering the final 20.

The Caps tied it at 7:57 with Evgeny Kuznetsov‘s sixth goal of the year. Like Nicky’s, Kuzy’s was also shot from a great angle. He even gave the fans the bird, as in the iconic bird celly. The game would require overtime.

59 seconds into overtime, John Carlson was whistled for hooking on Tyler Seguin’s breakaway attempt. This gave the best player on Dallas a penalty shot and a chance to win the game but Holtby said no.

That kept the game tied for a while longer until Dickinson ended the game at 3:17. The Caps homestand continues Monday night as Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers come to town. We hope a lot of goals get scored in this game.
