Capitals Conditioning Continues; Stephenson and Smith-Pelly Join

The Capitals, minus the rookies who are in Florida, continue to work on strengthening their bodies and warming up for training camp next week.

The morning typically starts early with the goalies working at the far end of the rink with Scott Murray. Today they brought in the notorious medicine ball. In the net were Pheonix Copley, Vitek Vanecek, and Braden Holtby. More on them later.

Nathan Walker was busy helping feeding the goalies pucks.

Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson spent time chatting and watching players. Maybe Tom is preparing to wear the “A”?? Good to see Wilson HOME again!

Jakub Vrana was one of the first on the ice. He is taking this conditioning time seriously.

Devante Smith-Pelly made his first appearance at the impromptu camp on Friday.

Ovechkin followed his normal routine: sit and watch, skate and stretch, and then skate fast and shoot hard. His preparation in Florida has done him well. You would hardly know he is a new dad with sleepless nights!

Chandler Stephenson is pretty happy to be back at camp!

All an all, the players look like they haven’t missed a practice in spite of their celebratory summer! Enjoy our first looks as we wait for the rest of the team to come home. TJ Oshie is in Chicago, Andre Burakovsky is on a plane heading back, Madison Bowey was at MedStar although we didn’t see him on the ice while we were there. Dmitry Orlov is still in Russia as far as we can tell. And the rookies not here now are in Florida for the Rookie Showcase which begins 8 September.

Here are some more photos to hold you over until next week!
