Capital One Arena Reno Continues

During the Capitals Season Ticket Movie Night, we had a chance to peek around and see how the renovation of Capital One Arena is going. Monumental Sports has committed $40 million to bring the Arena up to the standards of other competitors.

They promised we would see new concession stands and clubs for an improved dining experience. The halls on the first level have been gutted and one can already see how much more open it will be. New floors and lighting will be installed shortly. Unfortunately the renovation does not include improving the rest rooms- a common complaint heard at the STH event.

The PwC Club was behind curtains although it is one of the areas Monumental is upgrading. The renovation will include new big comfy seats and new chef-prepared meals. The Arena provided these early pictures of the demolition.

The workers have also gutted the Team Store for a major overhaul. The store will be open year-round and include merchandise for all four teams housed at the Arena.

New seats have already been installed in much of the 400 section. Lower bowl has not been touched yet.

The sound system is slated for improvement. It was hard to tell if that has occurred yet but we can tell you it was LOUD for the showing of Black Panther.

Finally, Monumental is partnering with MGM Grand for a new club experience. On Friday they revealed what the new club has to offer for VIP members. This is quite a step up for the VIP experience. Thursday STHs gathered in the former area. The new area is a huge improvement and much overdue for those fans shelling out the big bucks for the on-glass/on-court game experience.

The exterior remains virtually unchanged. MedStar now has naming rights at tge Capitals practice faculty in Ballston. Kettler has new naming rights to the club level and new signs will appear there before opening day. They do need to change one logo on the polls though.

One thing that will change come 3 October 2018 is the addition of a new banner with the words: Stanley Cup Champions.

During the joint Caps-Wizards-Mystics-Valor night they played a video which concluded with the cheers of crowds for the winning team! “Coming this fall”

More on the renovation as it becomes available.
