in the days since the Capitals Stanley Cup Parade, we have heard and read a lot of negative comments about bringing children to the event. Our thought? If you were smart about it, it was manageable.
We love that this was a day for fathers AND MOTHERS to share the day with their sons AND DAUGHTERS! It was a little bit of history and legacy mixed together.

We met loads of families. There were the boys we sat with, one who plays hockey and is Caps-inspired. There were other kids who said they might start ice skating lessons now so they could play hockey.
That’s exactly what we want to see in the DMV in particular. There are some great rinks in our area but we have a long way to go. We hope to spend time this summer highlighting the leagues around the area– children’s leagues and beer leagues alike!!
And of course the players had their children with them up on the floats. Now we have to admit that John Carlson made us a tad bit nervous with Lucca perched on top of his shoulders!
At the end of the day, we believe that Hockey is For Everyone- all genders, all colors, all religions, ALL people. As Ted Leonsis and Barry Trotz said – we are equal in this great hockey family.
