After the send-off for Games One and Two, the Washington Capitals fans made a beautiful party last night at Capital One Arena. The Caps won the franchise first home-win in a Stanley Cup match. And the Golden Boys lost their first two in a row.
Exorcising its demons has been the Caps way to redemption during these playoffs. After beating the Penguins, the Lightning, winning their first Stanley Cup game, and winning their first Stanley Cup home game the Caps are now making Vegas face adversity for the first time. The Golden Knights swept the Los Angeles Kings in Round One, allowing only three goals against in that series. After that, the Knights eliminated the San Jose Sharks after six games, 4-2, although those two losses weren’t in a row. However, it was here that they recorded their highest goals against: 14 in six games. After this, they won the Western Conference Championship beating the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 in the series allowing 10 goals against in five games.
In just three games of the Stanley Cup final round the Capitals have scored 10 goals, four in the first game and three in each of the next two. In Game One, Vegas won by 6-4, but they only manged to score two goals in Game Two and just one goal in Game Three. In other words, the Capitals aren’t just exorcising their own demons of past losses but they are now wreaking havoc on the hottest team in the league.
Playing a skilled and a highly physical game, the Capitals are dominating the series after Game Two. We can expect a great Game Four, once more at Capital One Arena this Monday.
