Viewing the Caps Game One Loss from Capital One Arena

Wow! We are still getting used to the reality that the Washington Capitals are in the playoffs. Monday night, while many Caps fans were seen entering T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas a whole lot more at home filled Capital One Arena.

Fans arrived early – as in two hours before the doors opened! It was okay because there was merchandise to be bought! The Arena was a sea of Red, except for one lone blue Malkin (blech) jersey…

The joint was jumping to say the least. The place erupted in cheers with the Caps first goal by Brett Connolly in answer to the Knights first goal. Nick Backstrom felt like he needed to light up the crowd, so he did with a sweet backhand to give the boys a 2-1 lead. It wouldn’t last as William Karlsson came back to tie it again.

We especially adored this mom and her two girls celebrating the goal by Nicky.

The second period had us on the edge of our seats when Vegas’ Smith broke the tie. We held our breath until John Carlson tied it up 3-3. There was lots of back and forth; however, the period ended 3-3.

The Caps came back to the third determined to do whatever was necessary to score. So Tom Wilson, looking like a younger Alex Ovechkin, scored with a tip-in as he slid by on his butt. Unfortunately they wouldn’t keep the lead for long as the Knights Reaves got around Carlson to score. Maybe should have been a cross-check penalty but the refs didn’t see what we saw….

And the game wouldn’t be complete without the controversy over a Tom Wilson hit. This one sent Marchessault down the ramp and resulted in matching minors. Marchessault would return later in the period.

Fans in DC had a reaction too…

With a bit of an equipment issue for Devante Smith-Pelley, the Knights get back on the board and resume the lead.

Coach would pull Holtby to give the team a one-man advantage but to no avail. Nosek would get the puck in the empty net with seconds to spare to clinch game one 6-4 in their favor.

The fans hung in there until the bitter end. They were still cheering CAPS CAPS CAPS as they poured out of the arena. We aren’t don’t yet. The Caps just need four more games!!
