Caps Wrap up West Coast Trip in San Jose with A BIG Win

The west coast is not friendly to the Washington Capitals. Saturday was different than the first two games in Anaheim and LA. It was the first regulation win there since 1993, according to the Washington Capitals.

We were on “O” Watch:

Ovi needed two for 600

Oshie need to break his desert spell with one goal.

Orpik needed to defend the net.

How’d it go you ask??First period Ovi had a shot. Oshie was close to a shot but it went wide. And neither team scored so for now Orpik was safe. Grubi stopped 12 shots while Martin Jones only had to stop six. Tom Wilson spent two in the box but the PK guys did ok.

The second period was slightly better for the Caps. They got on the board with a Nick Backstrom goal, assisted by Connolly and Carlson. Wilson got his second penalty but the Pk was strong again.

Ovi had four more attempts but no goal.

Oshie still has no shots or goal

And Orpik is holding his own.

1-0 Caps at the end.

The third developed well. Lars Eller slid one into the empty net for his 15th goal and a 2-0 lead for the Caps. Orlov and Niskanen with the assists.

So, about those other three:

Ovi had one more shot for a total of six. No goals so gotta do it at home Monday!

Oshie zero SOG and two hits and a block. Maybe he is playing D now?

And Orpik came through with five hits and a block.

And Grubauer was stunning with a shut out and 24 saves.

The Caps played well. Let’s hope they can bring this energy back to DC.

Practice is at 1015 at Kettler. Then it’s Winnipeg at 7.
