Capitals Thursday Practice

Coverage by Chris Cleveland

After a day off and a respectable 3-2 win over the Senators, the Caps were back on the ice at Kettler for practice. They have two more days before the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series on Saturday. Our Twitter King, Chris Cleveland was there to catch some highlights for us.

We had the whole ‘orb light’ thing going for us as Tj Oshie and Jakub Vrana took a few spins together. They were paired up with Kuznetsov on the second line. Maybe it’s a good omen?!?!

At one point Carlson wiped out in front of Chris with a nice spray of snow. He didn’t mind!!! Travis Boyd skated and helped Holtz practice his reflexes. We think they are ready for Saturday!

We are growing rather fond of the John Carlson and Michal Kempny as a defensive pairing. The D was hard at it today. Orpik and Beagle were pushing each other, the bottom six guys were running drills with the D-men, and of course there was Holtby defending the net.

The lines from today – which are not necessarily what we will see on Saturday were

Ovi  Backy  Wilson
Vrana  Kuzy  Osh
Connolly  Eller  Burky
Chiasson/Stephenson  Beags  DSP
Kempny  Carlson
Orlov Nisky
Orpik  Djoos

There was another “incident” with Tom Wilson at today’s practice. If you remember, he was on and off the ice on Sunday during practice. Coach Trotz said it was an “irritant.” We have seen him shaking his hand both times and during/following the game on Tuesday after his fights. We hope it is nothing serious. We need him come playoff time!

The boys were wearing their Stadium Series practice uniforms. We like them a lot! Kettler has lots of merchandise for your purchasing pleasure!

We will be waiting to hear who the starting goalie is on Saturday as Coach wasn’t sharing today. We know it will be Holtby or Grubi haha!  Apparently, according to Tarik El-Bashir, the team knows who it is already.

The Capitals were scheduled to practice in Annapolis on Friday.  High winds are predicted for the morning and they will practice at Kettler at 1030 instead. The Leafs will go to the John McMullen Hockey Arena at the Brigade Sports Complex in Annapolis. And then it is on the ice Saturday at The Navy-Marine Corps memorial Stadium against the Toronto Maple Leafs. We’ll let you know if we hear more. A good day planned for all!!
