Caps prepare for double-date with Jackets

It’s not the double date that you’re thinking of, but a meeting between the two clubs twice this week. The Washington Capitals are set to play The Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at Nationwide Arena. On Thursday, Caps will travel back to Capital One Arena and host Columbus. The Blue Jackets, who are 4th in the Metropolitan Division, are surely a team to be reckoned with. Their defensive core is young and full of talent, they have a Vezina-winning goaltender and their offense is fast. Here is a list of a few players to watch from Columbus:

Bob is a goalie who should not be taken lightly. This 2017 Vezina Trophy Winner can flash the glove and maintain excellent rebound/puck control. It is going to take more than a pretty shot to beat this guy. Low shots, traffic in front and guys crashing the net will do the trick. I would expect Braden Holtby to start these games for a goalie battle of the titans.

  2. Zach Werenski.Zach-Werenski

Werenski is the Blue Jackets ‘Great 8.’ This 20 year old from Michigan is young and very talented. He plays a fantastic two-way game with 22 point on the season thus far (11 goals-11 assists). Look for him to step up and challenge the Caps ‘Great 8’ Alex Ovechkin and make things difficult for Washington’s offense.

  3. Cam Atkinson.

At 5’8” and 179 lbs, this Connecticut native knows how to move and shoot the puck. He is fast and great at handling the puck, which makes him an imminent threat to the Caps’ defense. 17 points on the season so far (8 goals-9 assists), this speedster will look to make an impact early in both games. Caps will need defensmen like Brooks Orpik and Matt Niskanen to step up here and contain their fast players like Cam.

There are others that I could list, but I personally think these are the players to contain if the Caps look to earn both wins. First game is tonight at 7 p.m. and next game is on February 9 at 7 p.m. as well. Be sure to catch both and look out for us on Twitter, @InColdPlacesDC and my personal @Jurky88. Go Caps!
