In One Game, Ovechkin Has Joined Five Remarkable Lists

After three consecutive losses, the Washington Capitals have found the victory again, beating the Florida Panthers by 4-2 at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.

The 3rd Star of the Game, captain Alex Ovechkin, needed just only one night to join five remarkable NHL lists. In addition to 588 goals, the Russian reached the 500 assists milestone.

1 – The Capitals were losing by 1-0 when Nicklas Backstrom tied the game. Backstrom is the player who provided most assists to Ovechkin’s goals but yesterday it was the Russian’s turn to give a goal assist for his friend and teammate, consequently reaching the 500 career assists milestone. Backstrom is also the player with most assists in the franchise history, with 568. Therefore, Ovechkin has joined the remarkable franchise list which features only he and Backstrom ahead as players with 500 assists or more in Caps history.

2 – When the Caps were back on the board again, losing by 2-1, Ovechkin scored his 30th goal of the season, being the league’s top goal scorer. Ovechkin became the 10th player in NHL history to score at least 30 goals in 13 seasons, consecutive or not. The leader of the list is Mike Gartner, one of the players who had their numbers retired by the Capitals, who scored at least 30 goals in 17 seasons.

3 – Ovechkin became the 10th player in NHL history to score at least 30 goals in 13 consecutive seasons. Mike Gartner appears again leading the list, who scored at least 30 goals in 15 consecutive seasons.

4 – Ovechkin became the 3rd player in NHL history to score at least 30 goals in his first 13 consecutive seasons or more. The other two ahead, tied at first, features Mike Gartner again, alongside Wayne Gretzky (both with 15).

5 – Ovechkin became the fourth active player in the league with at least 500 goals and 500 assists. The other three are Jaromir Jagr (Calgary Flames), Marian Hossa (Chicago Blackhawks) and Patrick Marleau (Toronto Maple Leafs).

The achieved milestone confirms the quality of Ovechkin as a player, who has already been criticized by some hockey followers on social medias who have called him, in an unfounded way, selfish. In addition to scoring 588 goals, he has achieved 500 assists, evidencing his importance in the offensive department, his individual skills and the ability to use them collectively, helping the team as a whole, through the proximity of the numbers of the achieved milestones.
