Tonight Devante Smith-Pelly recorded his 50th NHL Career assist. So far he has 10 points in 30 games and could have one of his best seasons yet.
When DSP came to the Capitals, there was a certain amount of skepticism about him. He was picked up as an unrestricted free agent after Devils places him on waivers last June. There were questions about his consistency and maybe some concerns about a knee that kept giving him problems.
But he showed up for camp ready to prove himself. He had the backing of fellow Canadian, Tom Wilson. More importantly, Coach Trotz saw something in his style of play and his determination. And it seems the risk was worth it as he has shown greater consistency and the tenacity the Caps need, especially when they were in a bit of a player slump.
And besides- with that toothless grin, it only seems right he would be skating with the Cap!!!
