In their return home from a painful road trip, the Washington Capitals beat the New York Islanders to the end 4-3. Players like Taylor Chorney and Alex Chiasson each scored their first goals of the season, but the player that stood out among all was Lars Eller. Eller previously had an amazing game against Edmonton on the road trip, where he had bomb from the right dot to help in the win over Connor McDavid and the Oilers. “The Great Dane” has been such an asset for Washington lately and continues to prove the team’s depth as the leading bottom six forward.

Eller’s first goal last night was a well connected one timer on a feed from Chandler Stephenson. Madison Bowey entered the zone and laid a pass off for Stephenson on the half-wall, where he would feed a lone Eller for the goal. His second goal came late in the third period on the rush. Eller came storming down the right side on a two on one. Usually, he looks for the pass in situations like that. Instead he took the shot and buried it top shelf, short side on the New York Islander and ex-Washington Capitals goaltender Jaroslav Halak. Overall, Eller had a three point night, tallying two goals and an assist to the Chorney goal.

Last night was a huge step up from Eller, who is very underrated as a third line scoring center. The past few games, he has been one of the hottest assets for Washington, centering Stephenson and Tom Wilson.
Stephenson has proven to be a playmaker so far after his call up from the Hershey Bears and Wilson continues to be a presence on the ice, as well as an effective power forward. Eller is the perfect fit for the Capitals’ third line and has been showing it with his performance.
