Historical Capitals Night

Historical night for Alex Ovechkin, Nathan Walker, and the Washington Capitals.

We don’t really know how to begin to describe the Caps Opening Night.

It began with the usual Red Carpet Event: we have loads of photos.

Then there was the welcome to Nathan Walker. The first man from Australia to play in the NHL. Lots of signs to celebrate! And before the end of the second period he scored his first goal. Devante Smith-Pelly grabbed the puck and made sure that Nathan was credited with the goal. Impressive.

Then we come to the first  period when Ovechkin scored in 20 seconds: and Oshie in 46 seconds, followed by Ovi again in under three minutes. He was not done! Before the end of the period Ovi scored his third goal, making it six in two games. Moving on, he went ahead and recorded a fourth goal, just ‘cause he wasn’t done yet!

Not only did The GR8 score two hat tricks in the first two games of the season- he joined an elite club. No one has done this since the 1917/18 season, according to John Walton.

Evgeny Kuznetsov had four assists – he is well on his way to breaking his own record. We like this Ovi Kuzy Vrana line — a lot.

Braden Holtby was amazing in the net tonight. He had 38 saves.

And let’s not forget the emotional video honoring Karl Alzner. We admit, we got a little tearful.

Oh, and the Canadiens did score a goal-just one.

It was an amazing night to be in DC. The Nats won tonight too! We’ll have a full photo gallery of the day up on Sunday.

Next game is Tampa Bay Monday at 7:30.
