Brooks Laich and His Jules Tie the Knot

Summer is the time for hockey weddings!!

The Ovechkin wedding wasn’t the only big news this weekend. Former Washington Capitals player Brooks Laich married his love, Julianne Hough. They were married in Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Former Caps photographer, Cheryl Nichols ran into another former Cap, Mike Green, who was there for the wedding.  img_0573

It took a bit of searching to find photos of the sweet and rather private event. It appears that they contracted with People Magazine for the rights to wedding photos but that didn’t stop the paparazzi from taking a few shots. And since they are out there, we thought we would share.

The wedding was quite a different affair from the Ovechkin extravaganza. The dancing star and hockey player were married with 200 guests sharing the special moment. The lakeside wedding was held outdoors because of their mutual love of nature.

The wedding was pulled together by Troy Williams of Simply Troy Lifestyle. Mrs. Laich wore a custom Marchesa dropped waist gown and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

As with any wedding, there is always at least one little snafu – this time it was the bus that nearly didn’t make it to the lake. Have no fear, brother Derek had it under control!!

She was given away by her father Bruce. People reported that “Hough’s brother Derek Hough, served as a groomsman. Their two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Lexi and Harley, also sported flowered collars for the ceremony and served as ring bearers.”

The couple announced their engagement in August 2015, after nearly a year of dating. They first met in 2013 when introduced by Teddy Sears, who was then working with the Dancing With the Stars. She quickly became part of the Caps family, attending games whenever she was in town and stopping to chat with fans after the game.  It has been difficult to set a date between her busy schedule with Dancing With the Stars and Brooks hockey schedule.

We don’t think we have ever seen Brooks looking happier!!

We wish the couple many more years of joy and blessings as they begin their new life together. She will return to her dancing commitments while he continues to look for opportunities in the NHL.
