The Caps just keep on amazing us–to the point that fans at the Verizon Center may have become a wee bit board by the third period. The night started celebrating Alex Ovechkin’s 1000th point with his wife and parents on the ice. And it ended with Philipp Grubauer recording his third shutout of the season and a 5-1 win.
Our word for the night? Awesome!
It was fun having the Stanley Cup winners in the house. The LA Kings boast some of the best players in the league, including Perter Budaj who has seven shutout and a five-game winning streak coming to DC. And then there is Jeff Carter and Anze Kopitar, who are among the most exciting players to watch.
So,the short story is:
First Period: Lars Eller and Marcus Johansson
Second Period: Brett Connolly and TJ Oshie
Third Period: Justin Williams delivered the final blow to his former teammates.
In all, 11 players recorded points- these guys with the assists:
Kuznetsov, Orpik, Wilson, Alzner, Backstrom, Ovechkin (and Marcus too)
The Caps pretty much left the Kings dazed…
The defense was, well awesome. They were every where they needed to be. The Kings play a physical fast game and this Caps team seemed able to meet them at every turn.
Grubi was awesome. The Kings kept him busy with 38 shots on goal. This has been quite the breakout year for him and we are so glad Coach Trotz is giving him the opportunity.
So on the Carolina Hurricanes at home Tuesday. Game time is 7 pm. See you there!
