The Washington Capitals played the Columbus Blue Jackets earlier this week revealing some gaps in performance. Since then the Caps appear to have turned things around with a stunning win against Pittsburgh and a hard fight against Detroit.
The Caps will be without one of their star shooters and scorers, TJ Oshie and center Lars Eller–both out with upper body injuries. In to fill the gap on Sunday will be Paul Carey from the Hershey Bears. Mike Vogel writes that Carey has had an impressive year so far and should fit in nicely.
Fox Sports News reports that Columbus is having their fair share of problems to: “Defenseman Seth Jones returned to practice for the Blue Jackets on Saturday. He was placed on injured reserve Nov. 7 with a hairline fracture in his foot. Left winger Matt Calvert, who scored the game-winning goal Friday despite taking a puck to the face that resulted in 36 stitches, travelled to Washington, but is dealing with swelling around his eye, Tortorella said.”
Anyway you look at it, tonight should be another thriller at Verizon. SB Nation says that the Jackets are the real surprise of the season. John Tortorella seems to have turned things for the team with his unique style of coaching. They flew into Washington after a surprise 4-2 win over the NY Rangers. Sergio Bobrovsky is expected in the net for the Jackets.
The Caps with two wins in the pocket are ready for three. We expect Braden Holtby in the net tonight. Not sure what the lines will look like Sunday afternoon. Coach said Saturday that he hopes Andre Burakovsky, who was banged up Friday night, will play but he said we would have to wait for a game-time announcement as to the structure of the lines.
Everyone will need to step up to get the win over the Jackets. Maybe this is the day we see Kuzy Magic reappear?!? He needs to get back to shooting at every opportunity. Check out Isabelle Khurshudyan’s recent article on his struggles.
It’s an early game at Verizon with a puck drop at 12:30 on CSN.
