Best Part of Caps Weekend? The Best Buddies Walk.

The best part of this past weekend was joining Team Strollin with Nolan, Team Caps Wives & Girlfriends, and a few Red Rockers to walk in support of the Best Buddies organization. It was a beautiful morning for a walk in Washington DC with plenty of Caps fans supporting the cause. Kim Trotz, wife of coach Barry Trotz, led a team of supporters and there was a second Caps team comprised of the hockey player WAGS  who raised money for the event and walked the 5K.

Best Buddies, with a local chapter in Falls Church, VA, is a non-profit group whose primary purpose is to “enhance the lives of people with people living with intellectual developmental disabilities (IDD).” The intent for Saturday’s walk was to raise awareness and to become part of an organization that Coach Trotz has long supported. He even met with his former group when the Caps played in Nashville last year.

It was so much fun to talk with the wives, many who were pushing strollers of their little ones. We’ve had a baby boom in our player families!! Keep an eye out on Gina Carlson’s Instagram as she hopes to start her fund raising campaign for St. Judes, which will include an opportunity to meet hubby John.

Click here to find out how you can contribute to Barry’s team named for his son Nolan, even if you didn’t walk. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer for things like Best Buddy Prom- just contact the office and they will find a place for you.

We can’t think of a better way to honor Barry and the Washington Capitals community.

Unfortunately many of our photos didn’t come out due to operator error–it’s what happens when Mel and Brittney turn the camera over to Maggie!!
