Caps Start the Journey to Winning

The Washingnton Capitals held the first practice to prepare for the regular season and the run for the Stanley Cup. It was a pretty rigorous workout now that the final roster is set.

Following practice, the players participated in a media day and shared their thoughts about last season, change, and moving forward. Consistency and moving forward was the predominant theme.

Alex Ovechkin told the press “Everyone wants to improve” and it is time to stop talking and “get involved and move forward.” Braden Holtby echoed Ovi, talking about pushing forward.

CSN asked Nick Backstrom about the first game in Pittsburgh where the Pens will raise The Stanley Cup banner. Nicky said it will “get us fired up right from the start” and will be “great motivation.”

Owner Ted Leonsis also believes now is the time and that this team looks good to be the team to bring home the Cup. He continues to expand his sports and technology interest with the announcement of a new partnership between Monumental Sports and CSN-Mid-Atlantic. They are looking at how fans are viewing sports today and what changes the media needs to make for the future.

Looking back at the morning’s non-training camp practice, we saw a team with intense concentration and coaches who aren’t messing around as they improve the skill of the team. While we agree with the mantra of “Will Over Skill,” this team still needs to find the proper blend for lines and capabilities to bring them closer to the end goal come May/June 2017.
