According to the Washington Capitals, Dmitry Orlov finally signed a one-year contract with them today (9/21/16). Dmitry, who is playing defense for Team Russia in the World Cup of Hockey this week, will make $2.57 with this new contract. A slight bump in salary up from $2.25 last year.
Orlov previously signed a two-year 4m$ contact in 2014. Unfortunately, an injury kept him side-lined for a good bit of that contract.
A one-year contract makes sense at this point. He did not have the greatest season after his return; however, Coach Trotz has repeatedly said that he thinks Orlov just needs more time to mature as a player. He has spent a fair amount of time during World’s in the box. That said, his own country sees enough potential in him to put him in a highly competitive game.
We are excited to see what he brings to the team this season. Newly married to Varvara Amosova, the Russian model, we hope that this is the year when all the pieces come together for him. We expect to see him improve on his 2015/16 stats of 8 goals and 21 assists–the third highest points for defensemen on the team.
